Ncedakele Elliot Mtshatsheni

SCWO Ncedakele Elliot Eric Mtshatsheni was born in (Stutterheim) in the Eastern Cape on the 15 March 1968 and grew up in King Williams Town at Ndevana location, he spent most of his teenage years in Cape Town, Khayelitsha. 

He joined the military as a member of Umkhonto Wesizwe 27 years ago in Tanzania in the town of Iringa at the Far East Base.

 He undergone a basic course in conventional/regular force conducted by the Tanzanian Peoples Defence Force (TPDF) at Mgagao’s Dr Yusuf Dadoo military training camp. 

He joined the unit of 60 at the time and undergone Junior Leadership Course for Non Commissioned Officers conducted by TPDF as a Corporal and on completion of the course was promoted to the rank of a Sergeant. 

During his service at MK he was deployed in various positions as a Section Commander, Platoon Commander, Coy CSM and Course CSM for Junior Leaders Course until his return to South Africa in May 1994. 



In 1994 he integrated in the SANDF as a Sergeant, in July 1994 he undergone an assistant instructor’s course in Oudtshoorn at the SA Army Infantry School. 

In August the same year, he joined the first Bridging Training conducted by Infantry School under Junior Training Wing. 

In January 1995 he undergone the Infantry Corps Training in Oudtshoorn at the SA Army Infantry School and thereafter deployed in 6 SAI Bn in Grahamstown. 

From 1995 until 1999 he worked in various positions as a Platoon Sgt in Support Company. (Mortar Platoon, Machine Gun Platoon, Assault Pioneer Platoon), Company Quarter Master Sergeant, Acting Company Sergeant Major in Alpha Coy. 

In 1999 he was transferred to Oudtshoorn at the SA Army Infantry School as a Wing Quartermaster Sergeant in Department Training and Planning (DTP). 

In August 2002, he was promoted to the rank of a WO2 and worked as an Instructor/facilitator at CQMS and CSM courses at Infantry School in Advanced Training Wing and was also a course leader in the CSM course for several times including the Army Conventional Reserve (ACR) members. 

2005 he was transferred to SA Army Gymnasium in Heidelberg at the WO Branch as a facilitator at the WO Development Course.

 In 2007 the WO Branch was moved to Pretoria at the SA Army College, he had an opportunity to be a course leader at the WO Development Course at the SA Army College.

In May 2008 he was transferred to 46 SA Brigade in Johannesburg, Kensington as a RSM Main HQ unit and participated in all the exercises the Brigade has participated during that period, Exercise Seboka, Exercise Young Eagle, Course Support and Exercise Ndlovu.

In September 2013 he was appointed as the Formation Sergeant Major of the SA Army Infantry Formation.

In May 2016 he was appointed as the SA Army Discipline Sergeant Major at the SA Army HQ, Dequar Road, Pretoria.

Since 05 September 2016 he has been the Acting Sergeant Major of the SA Army.

 He successfully completed all the military courses required, including Advanced Military Law at the School of Military Justice.

TOT Public Service Induction, (SA Airforce Base Waterkloof).

He attended and successfully completed the United States Army Sergeants Major Course (Class 59), in USASMA, Fort Bliss, Texas, USA.

 The Sergeant Major is a proud Infanteer.

He is married to Zoliswa and they are blessed with three boys, Khanya, Lukhanyo and Mihle.
